After years of performing as a duo, Boston-based
singer-songwriters Andy
Campolieto and Ben
Lee decided the time had come to bring their
brand of American acoustic music to life. In
winter 2006, armed with a collection of new
material chronicling the oft-painful journey
through life, love, and lost dreams, they began
scouring the local music scene for the right
mix of players and personalities. Andy and Ben
were lucky enough to find talented, likeminded
musicians who shared their vision: the brilliant
Tim Weed
on fiddle and mandolin; bassist
Harry Hussey, and Tien-Yi
Lee, whose jazz-inflected drumming breathes
light into the songs.
The
quintet’s chemistry was immediate. The result: a nimble
folk-rock/alt.country band reminiscent of Neil Young meets Nickel Creek, with the dusty back-road
feel of Whiskeytown. Throw in some bluegrass flavor and a dash of pop
for good measure you have a fresh and exciting sound
that has made Jo Henley one of the most promising young bands in the Northeast.
In October
2006 the quintet released its debut EP, “Long Way Home,” and is set to record a full-length followup this summer. The band has
been featured on television, college radio, festivals, and continues to
win over new audiences with its frequent high-energy
performances. Jo Henley is a top-notch act not to be missed.
