Sometimes—usually, in fact, I’d argue—it’s worth the wait for perfect. But once in a while, perfect is the enemy of the good, as the old saying goes, particularly when it comes to art, and so rather than wait for perfect, professionally-recorded studio versions of these songs, I decided to put their home-recorded iterations into the world. Why? Because I enjoy tinkering with my lo-fi, low-tech multitrack recorders in the comfort of my living room, is one reason. Another reason is these songs have something to say about the times we’re living in. More than anything, though, I just really dig these songs and think you might too. So here they are, four tunes I’ve recently written, tracked in a take or two, and gussied up with a cover, all streamable wherever you get your music. One day I suspect a few of these will get their proper studio treatment, and “Evolve” is already in our regular live rotation, but until then, I hope you’ll give them a listen and enjoy their stripped-down sound.
